I have recently purchased x-plane 9 (6 discs grey label)however am unable to load onto my PC. I have inserted disc 1 and only get as far as the end user agreement check box which is inactive and won't let me check it or move on any further. I am running Windows 7. Can any one help. Laminar Research have not been able to solve the problem so far.

Most Apple Stores should have a copy of it. Otherwise, you can order it directly from the xplane web site - and with the dollar being at such a good exchange rate at the moment, it may be cheaper this way!

Hi Peter, I did see these and was quite impressed - however the cost is astronomical for what you get. $65 for 2 x VTC maps??! OUCH! When the paper maps are ~$11-20, I really can't see the justification of purchasing these for each update cycle.

It did however prompt me to look into doing this myself and supplying the images and appropriate calibrated images for OzExplorer on my web site. I'm still working on the idea. :)

Steve,

No I am not looking for anything specific, just some fellow travelers who we could join online together in X-Plane.

Be aware I am getting my disk in a couple of weeks and then I will take another month to get the hang of the sim.

Then a little VFR flying to exchange information.

The maps you are looking for are probably the WAC charts. I haven't found them for download as yet. For cross country planning, I got a copy of XPGoodWay - which has all the high and low routes for IFR flight.

Steve,

Thanks for putting up the DAPS, it makes x-planing so much easier. Do you know where I can get hold of the sort of charts needed for planning cross country flights (Perth-adelaide)? Or is there a way of getting x-plane to show a wider chart area than you get under the 'local map' thing?

Cheers,

Hi Lionel,

Xplane is a lot different than MSFS - and you'll probably have realised by now that there is much more to it than MSFS :)

I haven't really found a step by step guide to setting things up however... Are you looking for something specific?

Hi Steve,

Finally I have FS9 tuned to a tee and am very happy with it for online flying.

However, I am finding FSX a little cumbersome for my computer and the cost of add-ons just too expensive! Besides there is and will be no FSNav for FSX and there is no equivalent replacement available that I like.

So having seen the blurb on X-Plane and downloaded the demo version I am keen to give X-Plane a try. Besides, I like the philosophy of the product. Make a really good Air/weather engine and let the model planes react to it, rather than Microsoft’s approach of making an individual aircraft.cfg file for each craft.

However, before I buy the real version I would like some beginner’s tips on how to set the program up. By just looking at it and playing with it so far, I am finding it quite formable.

So if you could give a beginner’s list of things to do, to get started, I would be very appreciative.

Looking forward to your response.

Lionel Rockman.
