Dopod 838 Pro replacement ROM
Last Updated: 13-Oct-2009
Update: I have changed the way I am developing ROMs. To make this ROM usable by as many people as possible, I have split my work into two chains. There is now a Development chain, and a stable chain.

New to flashing?
Check out the fantastic Beginners Guide to Flashing, and the Upgrading FAQ. There is also an excellent list of common problems and solutions. You can also flash your device using the SD card – something which I find easier. Of course, make sure you have HardSPL installed before doing anything with your phone! There is a full guide on this written by MrVanX
Looking to update your Radio?
You can get a newer radio ROM for your HTC Hermes device from my site (Or US Mirror #1, or US Mirror #2). You will need a copy 7zip (to extract the archive).

Note: This is NOT an official Dopod/HTC ROM and will therefore not be supported by HTC or Dopod. You should keep a copy of the latest official Dopod ROM incase you need to revert for warranty or troubleshooting purposes. If you have never upgraded a firmware on your Dopod, read up on it first – if you break your phone using this ROM, you get to keep all the pieces. All feedback however is appreciated!
stephen says:
Hi, upgraded my Dopod on Telstra…however now it drops out of service regularly. thinking i need the radio ROM, but not sure where to get this from ?
February 1, 2008, 8:13 amSteven Haigh says:
Which radio ROM are you currently using? You can find this out in Start -> Settings -> System -> Device Information. Are you also using it on the NextG network or standard GSM/3G?
February 1, 2008, 1:58 pmstephen says:
Hi There, i’m on Next G and have a radio version of 1.27.30.10.
Thanks !
February 4, 2008, 9:41 amSteven Haigh says:
I have had good reports from people using radio version 1.48.00.10 on the Telstra NextG network. You can get this version here.
February 4, 2008, 9:55 amJhun says:
Hi!
Can this update be used for the Asian retail version of the 838pro? I just upgraded my ROM using the HTC update and now I can’t get my WiFi working. The sound of the phone is also not good.
Can you help me out on this?
February 20, 2008, 11:21 amSteven Haigh says:
You can use this on any Dopod 838 Pro/Hermes/8525 phone. If you have issues with your Wifi now, this may not fix your issues, but see how your phone runs with my ROM.
February 20, 2008, 4:11 pmJhun says:
Thanks Steven!
So if this ROM cant fix my issue on the WiFi I can still revert back to the old ROM right?
February 20, 2008, 7:50 pmSteven Haigh says:
Correct.
February 20, 2008, 9:03 pmJhun says:
thanks again my friend! i’ll update u on whatever happens to my phone… i’ll do this tonyt.

Jhun says:
hi steven,
made the update last nyt evrything works fine… i like ur ROM but the problem is it still did not fixed my problem on the WiFi, it still does not work on this version. I’ll try going back to the old WM5 and if still does not work then I might bring it to the service center.
do you have any solution for this?
February 21, 2008, 6:37 pmSteven Haigh says:
Not too sure – the service centre might be the way to go.
February 21, 2008, 6:40 pmMatthew K says:

Appear to have an issue where the slide keyboard no longer responds after the screen has been locked and the backlight has been off for a period of time, can unlock, go into messages and read messages, but I cant type into a new message, keyboard is unresponsive..
This is on release 8.

Hi, loaded the latest release, it will not however let me change the GSM setting etc, not that I would know to change it to so that it accesses the Next G System, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
My radio version is 1.41.00.10
March 12, 2008, 8:27 pmSteven Haigh says:
Try a newer version of the Radio ROM. Preferably 1.43.10 or above.
I haven’t tried it personally with the Next-G network, however it should work.

I see mention of Telstra and Next G here.
Will this work on Optus GSM and 3G as well?
March 31, 2008, 9:16 pmSteven Haigh says:
Yes. I use mine on the Optus network using 3G (and HSDPA) data modes with no issues at all. It works perfectly for MMS, Internet, and data usage. Just make sure you run Network Wizard after installing this ROM.

Any pointers to guides of how to put these roms on a dopod 838 pro.
April 2, 2008, 6:28 amSteven Haigh says:
A good guide for beginners in flashing this ROM onto their phones is available here. There is also a great FAQ on the subject.
April 2, 2008, 11:37 amGrant S says:
Great ROM, have been using it on the i-mate JasJam for a while now. I have just got a HTC Touch Cruise, will you be developing a ROM for the Polaris series of mobiles? Thanks in the future.
April 4, 2008, 2:37 pmSteven Haigh says:
I would like to develop for other devices – however I can only really do it for the phones I own – as there is a lot of work to be done to make this happen. If HTC find this, I’d love to release ROMs for their latest model phones
A TyTN II would make a great device with WM6.1
April 4, 2008, 2:51 pmJohn says:
Hey Steve – how do we load the rom update onto the device?
April 5, 2008, 7:19 pmSteven Haigh says:
Hi John,
Check out this guide. It should get you on the right path.
Basically, sync your phone with your PC, download the new ROM and run RUU_Signed.exe.
April 6, 2008, 3:07 pmJohn says:
Thanks Steve – great Rom! Looks a treat. Am using my 838 pro to sync to a server exchange (push email) but the battery gets chewed in about 8 hours (minimal talk time) any tips or fixes?
April 6, 2008, 7:57 pmSteven Haigh says:
Hi again John. Welcome to the lovely world of constant data connections
Using exchange push eats battery more than anything else you can do with the phone. You can try being a bit more strict with the Power Management and Backlight time outs – but at the end of the day, getting a larger capacity (3rd Party) battery may be your only choice.
You may also be able to switch to using IMAP or POP3 for your mail needs – and set it to connect every few hours. This would increase battery life substantially.
April 6, 2008, 8:28 pmJohn says:
Thanks Steve – looks like I will have to put up with it! The new rom is great! Thanks for your help!
April 10, 2008, 8:16 amsel says:
hi…just got a new dopod 838 pro and i’ve noticed that if the phone function is on my unit and battery overheats. and the battery only lasts for less that 4 hours. just wanted to ask if is need to configure something on the phone to make the battery last longer or is my phone defective.
April 12, 2008, 8:58 pmSteven Haigh says:
Hi Sel, Looks like you have the same problem as I did with mine when I first got it. A trip to get it fixed under warranty, and now all is ok for me. Perform a factory reset on the device and then see if things change. If not, call the support centre and get them to book it in under a fault.
April 13, 2008, 12:37 amsel says:
hi steven,, i already did the factory reset on the device but it still didnt solve the problem. it thought at first the battery is defective but when i turn the phone fuction off..battery would last for a couple of days…
April 13, 2008, 5:37 pmwell i guess i have to opt for the next best thing to do .. get it fixed under warranty.. thanks for the suggestions .. will update you as soon as i get it done.. thanks again..
Shaun D says:
Hi, I have an 838 pro running on the 3 network will this ROM work for me or would I need something specifically for the 3 network? Thanks.
April 21, 2008, 5:27 pmSteven Haigh says:
It should work on all networks. If Network Wizard does not have your phone provider (Australian networks are 3, Optus, Telstra and Vodafone), then it will still work – however you will need to set up your phones data connections manually.
April 21, 2008, 6:30 pmShaun D says:
Hi Steven, thanks for the reply – flashed & all working OK for a while. Locked up so I hit the reset button now it is stuck on the CRCs ROM Loading… screen – is there anythinh I can do?
April 22, 2008, 9:31 amShaun D says:
Hi again, it’s OK – did a hard reset & now boots.
April 22, 2008, 10:11 amVu says:
Hi Steven, Thank you for the great ROM. I have using it for the last two days and no problem so far. I also install the Touch Commander which make the phone act like iphone a bit slow but good to have a go. Although I can see that my “Program memory” reduced to around 3-10MB free even I install program(s) on my 4GB microSD. is there anyway to take memory from storage (46.23MB free) to give to “Program Memory”. Once again thanks for your works. Cheers
April 23, 2008, 12:03 amSteven Haigh says:
Program memory is a lot different to Storage memory. Since Windows Mobile 5, the RAM for the device is on a physically separate device (well, not technically, but it’s SDRAM, not flash RAM). This means it is not possible to change the allocation of RAM to storage as it was possible under Windows Mobile 2003. These days, the amount of of RAM available is purely a hardware thing.
April 23, 2008, 12:37 amJhun says:
hi Steven,
I tried using your new ROM update but I could not update my ROM. It always disconnects. I tried using the safe sPL and SPL 2.02 boot loader but it just disconnects. Any particular reason for this?
April 23, 2008, 8:36 amSteven Haigh says:
The best place to start looking for answers to upgrading issues is on this page.
April 23, 2008, 4:33 pmMat says:
Hi Steve,
I upgraded to your latest ROM last night and have run into a very big problem. It was fine after flashing it last night, did a restart, booted up ok, installed everything and went through the usual setup wizard.
April 24, 2008, 8:58 amEverything was great until i powered it off and back on this morning. Once back on it seems to get stuck on the “CRCs ROM Loading…” screen. i have left it there for over 10 mins and it does not seem to be doing anything. i REALLY need my phone up and running for work. Any suggestions?
Steven Haigh says:
Hi Mat, some people have seen this – which seems to be related to the state of the phone before the flash. Most people have corrected their phone by installing the default AT&T Windows Mobile 6 ROM, then flashing back to Release 10. The AT&T ROM can be downloaded from the HTC web site.

April 24, 2008, 10:12 pmSteven Haigh says:
The base applications are already built in. I suggest you read the upgrading FAQ before flashing your device however.

Hi steve, same as others I do get into trouble when i flash the latest ROM. it stays in the ROM loader and doesnt come up. Is there a latest update ?? Thanks a TON.
April 29, 2008, 4:54 pmSteven Haigh says:
Hi Raja, As there are a number of phones that seem to be doing this, I have updated the Stable build to use a reliable base and updated applications on it accordingly. Please install v9.1 from the stable chain on your device at this point. If you feel like testing later development versions, you can – however if you have issues with them, the stable chain is now available.

i,m using 838 pro,now having problem with internet connection( error message ‘the answering modem has disconnected’)…..will this latest ROM fix the problem.
April 30, 2008, 2:14 amSteven Haigh says:
This is probably a network setting. You would need to contact your network provider for the correct information and settings. This is not something I can support or advise on.
April 30, 2008, 2:18 amRaja says:
Dear Steve, I would like to ask your advise on the keyboard. I am using Dopod 838 pro. sometimes i use onscreen keyboard. Is there anyway you can make it big.. its small and difficult to type.

Nope, the onscreen keyboards are always small

Hi guys, As you can imagine, I can’t help you with every little problem on your phone. While I develop these ROMs as a hobby, I don’t have the time or resources to fix everyones phone issues. I hope this isn’t an issue for people.

Great ROM!!! I’ve loaded the stable and love it, but sadly I’m having trouble sending files via bluetooth with other users, who before this rom update I could.
Any hints?
May 15, 2008, 9:46 pmSteven Haigh says:
To fix the beaming, make sure you have the following checked:
Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Beam -> “Receive all incoming beams”
Then in the Comms Manager, make sure the Beam option is BLUE. This will allow you to send and receive all beams via Infrared and Bluetooth.

Hey great site!
I just got back my phone from vodafone after a repair and i got a new board (even while i had an unofficial rom
). So i had to find a new rom because vodafone delivers only windows 5 and disables hsdpa. Before I had a dopod rom which gave me really great hsdpa speeds. However i installed 10.3 and radio 1.54.30.1, which really installed perfectly. But after the restart of the device after the rom upgrade it setups the phone with the vodafone settings and guess what ? No hsdpa …. So I am wondering what to do to get hsdpa with this rom ?

Hi Steve, I just update to 9.2 ROM ad I experience weird problem when the dopod on power save mode (screen off) for a while (over 10 minutes) then I can not turn on my Dopod again, only way to turn it on is to soft reset it. Is there any clue how to trace this problem?
June 7, 2008, 9:04 amThanks heap
Steven Haigh says:
Chances are that it’s a third party application causing issues with your device.
Try running the ROM with no third party applications, then install one at once and test to see which one causes the issues. From there, obtain a newer version of that application and re-test.
Sadly, in the Windows Mobile world, there is no debug logs
June 7, 2008, 12:40 pmVu says:
Thanks Steve, I only installed your ROM without any other software. Although I am sync my Email direct with Exchange server through Telstra Next-G and VPN connection. Not sure if this can cause any problem, I will test by trun off these service one by one for the next week and let you know if i find any problem. Once again thanks for your works.

June 8, 2008, 9:19 pmSteven Haigh says:
Not too sure Paul. I use a Bluetooth Hands free kit in the car and have no issues with it. There are also good reports of using BT headsets. I’m not quite sure what to recommend for this unit…

Hi Steven,

June 11, 2008, 10:32 pmSteven Haigh says:
I haven’t used the default Dopod ROMs in years. They do need proper support to get the 850Mhz band. My ROM does have that support, however if you want to stay with the official Dopod release, you would need to contact Dopod on how to do this AND get the 850Mhz support for NextG.

You can get the manufacturers (ie HTC/Dopods) ROM from their web site. You need to login and become a member before getting the download.

You can’t use this on a Tytn II – it’s a completely different device. Chances are that if you tried, you’d kill your phone.

Steve has kindly donated a lot of his time to get this ROM up to date and working……. The least we can do it throw a donation his way.
Keep up the good work Steve.

Hello Steve
Sorry to ask so many questions.
I am attempting to record my phone calls need this at work to confirm job instructions. If I was to upgrade my 838 Pro Rom do you think it would improve voice quality of caller or would this be fault of RESCO software?
Greg
July 2, 2008, 10:25 pmSteven Haigh says:
Hi Greg,
There is no real way on the HTC Hermes hardware to record calls – as there is no hardware path from the audio side to the recording side. This means the only way to record conversations is to put the phone into speaker mode, then use the normal audio recording functions to record everything the microphone hears – including what comes from the speakerphone.
As this is probably how you are doing it at the moment, I’m pretty sure you won’t find a better way on this device…
I myself would love an application that did call recording, but sadly it isn’t possible on this phone.

Hi Steve! Great work you’ve got here & really appreciate the good stuff you’re sharing!
Just wanted to give a bit of feedback here on v11.0 ROM.
Recently upgraded to v11.0 WM6.1 ROM (from v9.2) & radio ROM 1.48.00.10 (from XDA developers site).
Some small changes after the upgrade:
- Some rare few apps just refused to run (eg: Opera, a game called Pipes). In some cases, the OS simply says not valid application.
- A2DP streaming to my car stereo (via media player) sometimes jumps to the next song halfway. Am investigating this a bit more.
Just reporting them to see if you or anyone has seen the same things happening.
Otherwise, the v11.0 ROM is very stable so far.
Btw, your radio ROMs here bricked my device a few times. Had to re-write the OS ROM to unbrick my device; I’m using SPL 2.10 btw.

You have my sincerest condolences, and I hope you’re not too offended.

I have been using a dopod with Optus (Australia) using HTC firmware RUU_Hermes_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.53.707.2_6275_1.47.30.10_108_Ship.exe.
It had issues. It would not roam cell towers and locked up. I installed the 12.7 Development and actually fell in love with my Dopod. It works so much better. I have a few weird side effects, some I could likey explain. The battery has gone from one charge a day, to many. this might be the power requirements of Telstra Next G as I am now with Telstra. Voice commander randomly fires off “Say command” occasionally. Even when the phone is just sitting there doing nothing. My desk charger works fine but my car charger will not. I even flashed back to the HTC rom to confirm. It works fine with HTC. Weird. The lack of games is not a problem, but now I miss them. The last one was a major issue and I had to clear storage data and reconfig to recover. It told me that there was no carrier. Manual detection, I could see Telstra but not connect. I tried everything. My Sim in another phone worked fine, just not in the Dopod. Maybe my better phone signal was provided by an increase in gain and maybe this has upset the phone ? (As well as the battery).
After a reinstall, all is good again.
Well done on this Rom !

But all of sudden after a while, the time zone change automatically to GMT 1 Prague, Budapest. Hence, the bug piss me off all the time, because it mess my clock on syncs and calendar & appointments. Also, GMT 7 Krasnoyark is considered as GMT 8; pay good attention of it.
Lastly, I used 12.9 build.
Thanks for reading this. If you managed to fix the bug, I’d appreciate your email notification. =)

Hi Steve, I followed your article to upgrade my Dopod 838 Pro to 6.1 and it has been brilliant and solved a lot of issues I had in respects to WIFI and sluggishness when using the phone (as a phone). I also have an imate k-jam which I would like to upgrade to 6.1 (it also has some annoying issues). From my reading of other posts it appears that the hardware is the same (HTC Hermes) and I can use the same ROM ie. yours, not sure about the HARD-SPL however. What is your recommendation in regards to trying this before I brick the phone? There are some instructions in xda-developer to upgrade (using a generic ROM) but I would rather use your ROM if possible… thank for your help.

Hi Steve
October 5, 2008, 10:31 amGreat work on the rom I have a situation you might be able to help me with. My 838pro device seems to have a corrupted radio rom, it was working fine and then no service! When I check in the settings section there is no radio version listed. So I attempted to flash it with a new rom that included a radio rom and it hangs at 11% (I’m using the SD card system with hard spl to avoid bricking my device). Then if I flash it with your rom for example with no radio rom it flashes fine and everything works great except obviously i have no radio rom. Then if i attempt to flash the radio separately with loads of different versions it hangs at more or less 11% and then i get the boot loader screen after soft reset. I can re flash with your rom no problems but i cant get a radio rom to flash. Is there any way i can flush the radio rom first and then flash?? have you got any suggestion?
At the moment i have a cool PDA with no phone capabilities
Thanks again

I tried the naked big storage version 13.0 stable one but it got hang several times so I try the normal version…it works just fine however I have problem with battery indicator. it seems it drying out my battery, I charge it until 100% then in standby for about 1 hr the indicator start to warn that my battery is low about 10%. then I shut down the device, take out the battery and put it again and battery indicator showing 87%. it happen all the time. at first I thought this is because of the battery problem. I got new battery, however, after 10 minutes connected to gprs, the warning shown i only have 10% battery power. I tried to shutdown device, and turn it on again the indicator showing 80% and I can easily reconnect to GPRS and use it for another hour.
is it because of the ROM, or the radio? now i’m planning to use the original ROM WM 6.0 bundled CD to see the difference

Hey Steve,
Great ROM – I am using Telstra NextG with an imate-Jasjam and was ready to toss out the phone before I loaded your ROM onto it and it has become useful once more. No more sluggishness, better battery life – great all over.
One thing though, I notice the timestamps on the camera images are 1 hr out and every time I sync with my PC, it resets the clock on the phone to 1 hr difference as well. I’m assuming this is a DST issue (my Vista PC is set to automatically adjust for daylight savings). I am using CRC release 13.0, and I added in the DST fixes with Device Update.
I notice numerous mentions of DST “cooked in” for later versions, but also mention a known issue with the 10 Sydney timezone. Is it worth upgrading again now, or waiting until you’ve done fixed that issue?
Thanks…

Hi Desman,
The best way to see what the problem is would be to reflash your device back to the stock HTC (or Dopod or Imate) ROM etc and see if the problems still happen. If not, install your software one by one and see if the problems start again. Sadly, these kinds of things are only revealed by trial and error.

Hi again,
February 3, 2009, 2:48 pmJust flashed my phone and it appears to be mostly GREAT!
I can get service which is the main thing I was concerned about.
However, for mobile office, instead of it either being installed or available for d/l via device update, I only have one icon in programs called “NoData” with a green square with a green “G” in it…
Office mobile is available, however, on the main start menu, and it appears to work… sometimes… others it will start and eventually drop back to the desktop.
Just wondering if you’ve seen this type of behaviour (or had it reported)?
Thanks again for the ROM
EvilCow says:
Please disregard the previous post, NoData is actually a program and I’m just stupid!
However, i’m noticing that some keys don’t work first go… pressing them a few times helps sometimes. I’m assuming that’s a symptom of running the latest OS on an old, slow phone?
Thanks again

Hi Steven Haigh,
I was hoping to try your ROM. Read the guides but I afraid to use it. Need more information to make it fullproof. My DOPOD 838Pro has been with me for 2 years and got bored with it on windows 5.0.
This are very basic questions, and I apologize. I just want to make sure I know what I’m doing. Coz from reading the guides, there are a lot of warnings. After installing the ROM, would my 838Pro have Windows Mobile 6.1 and what applications will be installed?
I read the guide regarding Radio ROM applies to all 838 Pro? by the way, I think my Dopod 838 Pro is Asian version. What else do I need to know regarding my phone before performing any updates. I already lost my contacts trying to upgrade to the ROM available… Thanks.
February 18, 2009, 7:05 pmSteven Haigh says:
Hi Christian,
There is really not much risk if you follow the directions in the guides correctly. The guide is written to take into account issues you may encounter and what to do if those steps happen. After installing 13.3, you will be running Windows Mobile 6.1 and have the applications listed at the top of this post. More can be installed from Device Update as required.

Steven Haigh says:
Hi Koko, You can install things to the storage card by choosing Menu -> Options -> Use Shell Installer. You will then be able to choose where each cab file is installed. You will however have to continue all application installs manually – as it is not possible to automatically install things to the SD card.

Hi
Any chance you can update the ROM with AKU1.2 that fixes the “100 contacts” bug referenced here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405438
By the way, do you plan on releasing a WM6.5 ROM when it is released?
February 24, 2009, 9:35 amSteven Haigh says:
Hi Ian,
As far as I know, this ’100 contacts’ bug doesn’t affect my ROM. If it does however, please feel free to let me know. As I don’t use ActiveSync myself (I’m a Mac user!), I can’t verify this.
I don’t plan on doing anything with Windows Mobile 6.5 as yet – as from the initial builds I have worked on, the Hermes is a little too underpowered to make it all happen as it should. If this changes in the future, I may revise this.

Hi Steven,
May 11, 2009, 10:02 amI installed 13.3 a few days ago and when I open the keyboard it is launching the phone, this has not happened with previous installations. Prior install 13.1-pre7. The wireless network appears to be more reliable and better connection with this ver though. Your comments on the phone launching would be appreciated. Thanks Andrew

Hi, have had this rom installed for awhile but only just noticed that I cannot recieve MMS messages but am able to send MMS messages. Im on the Telstra NextG service. Any help would be great
Robert

Steven Haigh says:
Hi Robert,
You will probably need to contact Telstra and get them to enable MMS on your account. It seems this might be the problem – as the receive settings are pretty much the same as the send settings.

June 18, 2009, 12:04 pmSteven Haigh says:
As stated at the top of the page, you will need a copy of 7zip to extract the archive you downloaded.
June 18, 2009, 7:10 pmCharlie says:
Hi Steve, could you please tell me exactly what is the difference between the Normal, Naked, and Naked Big Storage versions? And am I correct to think that after running Device Update, I will be given a choice of what software I want to install? (and what are those please?)I am picking up a jasjam tomorrow, and look forward to upgrading to one of your ROMS. Thanks.
June 19, 2009, 10:53 amSteven Haigh says:
Hi Charlie,
The normal version is just like what you would get from a phone company with the standard apps, utilities and other things you’d expect to see. The Naked version is a bare Windows Mobile OS and very little else. It’s up to you to install what you want. The Naked.BS version is the same as the naked version – however the extended ROM is removed and that 10MB remapped as general storage space – the down side to this however is that it can be unstable on some devices.
As for questions about DeviceUpdate, check out it’s site.

June 24, 2009, 3:21 pmSteven Haigh says:
Hi Luke,
You need to install the .Net framework 2.0 or higher.

Hi steven,
currently i’m using your CrC 13.4, and it’s working great….
since a few weeks ago i have problems, my storage card is not readable by the device..
i have try to use another ROM, trying to re-format my SD card, blow off the dust on the card slot, but still not fix the problem. is it caused by hardware failure??
thanx for your attention.
best regards,
June 30, 2009, 5:28 pmSteven Haigh says:
Try reading your storage card in a different device. It could be a fault with either the phone or card. Doing this should help you figure out what the problem is.

Hi Steve,
Im using a dopod 838 and not the 838pro.. just wondering if you know if i can download your windows mobile 6.1 and install it onto the 838 =). your help will be much appreciated.
July 11, 2009, 12:26 pmcheers Anthony.
Steven Haigh says:
Hi Anthony,
The Dopod 838 is a HTC Wizard device. As such, this ROM won’t work on your phone.

Will you be making a Windows mobile 6.5 version soon?
I’ve found a few around but I know your firmwares are good and I trust them.

Psatkar says:
Hi Steven,
I think I am doing sme basic task wrongly. I read all the documents and also followed all the steps. I want to flash your ROM to my Dopod 838 pro. I have installed HardSpl, erased all the contents from MicroSD card, copied the HRMIMG.NBH to root folder of SD card and when I start bootloader by pressing “OK”, “Power” button and pressing Reset button, it shows me 4 bands with different colours. Text “Serial” i printed on white band on the lowermost past of the screen. However, there is no screen flash and nothing happens beyond that.
Am I doing anythign wrong here?
Thanks in advance…
August 10, 2009, 10:59 pmpsatkar
Steven Haigh says:
Hi Psatkar,
A couple of things…
1) Your SD card MUST be 2Gb or smaller in size.
2) The SD card MUST be formatted as FAT32 (FAT16 or just FAT will not work).
3) The file MUST be called HERMIMG.NBH
This page has all the details – make sure you follow it step by step.

Hi steven,
October 23, 2009, 8:31 pmcurrently i’m using your CrC 13.3, I cant seem to send contacts or even pictures or other files from my sony ericsson to my 838 pro via bluetooth. I had added the devices into both my phone list but the connection cant seem to work. The bluetooth from my phone cant seem to connect to the 838 pro but picture files can be beamed into my sony ericsson and I cant internet sharing via bluetooth. Please advice. Thank you
Steven Haigh says:
Make sure that Beam is turned on in Comm Manager and that in Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Beam has the “Receive all incoming beams” setting checked. You may also want to look at upgrading to 13.5 to enjoy a few bug fixes.
October 24, 2009, 8:41 pmCharlie says:
Hi Steve, I’ve updated to your 13.5 normal release, but I’m still randomly getting silences instead of incoming call alerts, or else I’m only hearing 2 rings after the person calling me has heard 8 or 9 rings. Is there anything you think I could try (find out then change the ‘radio’ version?) … or should I look for some other ROM … or what? Thanks very much, Charlie

November 24, 2009, 12:02 pmKen says:
Steve, Would I be correct in saying that the Jasjam cannot recharge and run applications at the same time. Battery does not charge when running navigation software.
January 7, 2010, 11:16 amSteven Haigh says:
Hi Ken,
It depends on the charger. A standard USB charger can only supply 500mA of charge, whereas a proper car charger can supply 1000mA. It is quite possible that the phone would use ~400mA while being used as a navigation device – meaning very little to no charge going to the battery.
Get yourself a 1000mA charger (which actually has an extra pin in there!) and you should see some charge go into the phone – however it will be at a reduced rate.

Hey mate,
Thanks for all you hard work, i regularly check this site for updates. Love the work. Keep it coming. I get strange problems occasionally where if I accidentally drop the phone things start going crazy (for example the ‘green and red phone’ plus the ‘d-pad’ on the front stop responding, the green and red phone lights wont turn off etc… Any theories?
Also, my wifi doesn’t seem to work. It will pick up accesspoints but thats as far as it goes. I’ve tried with a few but to no avail. Everyone says that upgrading radio rom’s wont change that so im at a loss in the what to do category.
Finally, do you know of any places/people who physically hack up the hardware for the Dopod 838 Pro? Stuff like clear case mods/lighting/replacing LEDs etc?
Thanks alot for everything mate.
Cheers!

Radio version: 1.47.00.10

Steven Haigh says:
Hi khurram,
It sounds like this is a hardware problem. It will need to be repaired – either by yourself or by a phone repair shop. No software will fix this problem.
Dex: It sounds to me like your front panel + Dpad issues are the same type of problem.

Hello there, any 6.5 Rom coming?
February 9, 2010, 7:58 pmSteven Haigh says:
No. I have no plans to build a WM6.5 ROM. The HTC Hermes is just getting too slow and dated for the extra requirements of WM6.5. It would be like trying to run Windows 7 on a 10 year old PC – sure it can be done – but it won’t be user friendly or fast.
February 10, 2010, 11:55 amKen says:
Steve, the 1A charger works fine with a small but. If the phone has been used for several applications and then attempt to charge while running navigation software it does not recognise the charger, do a soft restart and all works fine charging phone and running any apps. Only a small problem with a monor work around. Noted the request for WM6.5 and agree with your comments, also have a KJam with 6.5 – yes works but slow, eg the speach from navigation software incomplete as cannot keep up. Regards, Ken

September 29, 2010, 3:39 amjust a follow up question..
is there a way that i could uninstall programs thats included in the 13.5 normal rom? like the modaco NODATA coz i cant find it in the “remove programs”..thanks
Steven Haigh says:
Hi Karl, Programs that are cooked into the ROM cannot be removed.
v14.1 was a development release which focussed on the bleeding edge but was usually more unstable. I should probably get around to removing it one day – as it is generally nowhere near as stable as the 13.x series.
