How do I use the Auto-Install features?
If your ROM has DeviceUpdate included, you only need to register your device with your user account, then select your auto-install applications via the user interface.
If your ROM has SDConfig installed, but does not include DeviceUpdate, you can install DeviceUpdate by
copying the DeviceUpdate CAB file to \Storage Card\ on your device, then adding following line before
RST: Reset in \Storage Card\sdconfig.txt
-
CAB: \Storage Card\DeviceUpdate-v2.x.x.x.cab
Using this method, when you hard reset or flash a new ROM to your device, DeviceUpdate will get installed during User Customisation. After User Customisation has completed, the device will reboot automatically. On the next boot, you will be prompted to set up your Wifi or carrier settings which DeviceUpdate will use to auto-install the applications. After you have done this, reboot your device again and the auto-install will begin.
You can learn more about User Customisation here. It is preferred that you use an SDConfig (UC capable) ROM on your device in conjunction with DeviceUpdate.
If your ROM does not include SDConfig, you should request that the ROM provider include it. Failing that, you can manually install DeviceUpdate via CAB file on the second boot and then configure your Wifi/Carrier settings. Be aware however that you WILL NOT be prompted to set up your network settings etc, which could lead to problems.
NOTE: A Premium account is required to use the Auto-Install functionality.
What is the difference between Standard and Premium Accounts?
A Standard account allows you to run DeviceUpdate and manually install as many applications as you like. You can also rate applications via the user interface.
A Premium Account allows you to do the same as a Standard Account, plus:
- Use the Auto-Install functionality of DeviceUpdate
- Get access to beta versions of DeviceUpdate to help with development
- Get support on issues with DeviceUpdate
- Get first access to new Premium Only features as they are released.
I subscribed, but my premium access isn't active. What gives?
PayPal can take up to an hour to send us the notification that you have subscribed. If your account is still showing as being inactive after 2 hours, please email deviceupdate@crc.id.au and include your username, PayPal email address and the PayPal transaction ID of your subscription.
We will then chase up the transaction with PayPal and see what happened.
How do I cancel my Premium Subscription?
- Log into your PayPal Account
- Click "History"
- Select "Subscriptions" from the "Show:" drop-down box.
- You may need to select a longer timeframe from the "For:" drop-down box if you have had your account longer than a month. Try selecting "Past Year".
- Press submit.
- You should see an entry called "Subscription Creation" with "DeviceUpdate Premium Subscription" in the "Name/Email" column. If the Status field says "Active", click on "Details".
- Click the button that says "Cancel Subscription" and follow the remainder of the steps. NOTE: It may take up to 1 hour for PayPal to process the cancellation request.
This will stop any future payments from being made, but will not close your user account. Your access to Premium Features will end when your subscription has expired. This is usually at the end of the current month of subscription. From this time on, you will only be able to use the basic services.
How do I install applications to my SD card?
- Open DeviceUpdate
- Tap Menu, Options, Use Shell Installer
With this option selected, DeviceUpdate will use the standard Windows Mobile CAB Installer. This will give you an option to install to Main Memory or Storage Card for each CAB file that will be installed.
