[...] Earlier this year, I posted about a traffic cop who got fined by Workcover for a health and safety matter while handing out a fine to a workcover officer. It seems this one had been doing the rounds (email, web sites etc), however Michael Birt from Workcover Victoria left a comment that this may have happened in NSW back in 2004, as in Victoria, on the spot fines are not issued. Today I got sent a link to the March 2006 issue of Northern Territory Police News and sure enough, on page 49 there is this story. [...]

CRC, I just received a version with a different location (which is how I ended up here, researching it), so it does look suss. I might submit it to snopes to look into!

This could well be the case. I was thinking that it may be more of an urban legend - however I couldn't locate any public sources with this information. This story also has a lot of nice details that make for good urban legends including a detailed location and time!

I still wouldn't mind finding out if it's an urban legend, or did actually happen :)

…but sadly it probably happened in NSW, and in 2004 to boot! Vic WorkCover doesn’t issue on the spot fines.

police

Ive been lucky the last few years or so, however I put it down to the baby seat in the back!
I think the majority of Police are Ok, however Highway Patrol and some of the younger cops seem to require “attitude adjustment”. There is also an issue with the minority of idiots wrecking it for the rest of us.

Just a funny story that happened on the New England highway near maitland NSW. Highway patrol pulls over a workcover inspector for doing 68 in a 60 zone, Workcover inspector says nothing and cops it sweet. Policeman finishes writing ticket and proceeds back to his car………..workcover inspector in the mean time gets digital camera out of bag photographs the cop and proceeds to the police car where he issues policeman with an $800.00 fine for not wearing his hi-visibility vest when leaving his vehicle in a high traffic area.
